 The Zajac
Foundation Media Guide
The Mel Jr. & Marty Zajac Foundation was begun by the
Zajac family in memory of Mel Jr. and Marty Zajac, two sons
who lost their lives within eight months of each other in
separate sporting accidents. Mel Zajac Sr., Chair of the
Foundation, has had a long history of contributing to the
community through the Zajac Golf Classic which is now called
the Zajac ADT Golf Classic and into it's 42nd year in
2006. Carmen Zajac, one of three daughters, is the
President of the Foundation.
The Zajac family has helped many children over the years
through their various fundraising efforts. Mel Zajac
soon realized, though, that both seniors and children were
among the most vulnerable groups in society. When he saw
a television program about Intergenerational Programming he
and his daughter, Carmen, decided to research these
programs. It wasn't long before Intergenerational
Programs became an important part of The Zajac Foundation
mandate.
Currently the Foundation provides affordable, supportive
housing for seniors and those with special needs and runs
on-site Intergenerational Programs for the seniors and
children from a neighboring daycare or preschool. The
Foundation is also looking into the possibility of
contributing to the provision of bereavement services
throughout British Columbia as well as the facilitation of
programs at a children's ranch.
